Well, it has been a while since we updated this. Having two kids is much more engaging than having one. People told us the increase was not simple math of one + one, but that it was an exponential increase. They were right. We thought before Joshua came home that Amber was good at sharing, that was when she didn't have to share full time. It took a while before she was OK with Joshua touching everything. That has gotten much better over time. Joshua has experienced lots of new things since he has been home, like quietness and darkness. The orphanage provided neither during his young life. With 20 -25 other kids in a room and a caretaker present there was always someone making noise and some one there with the light on. He had also never seen snow and it took a while for him to walk into it. The more dramatic change for Josh since he has been home was the end of the pacifier. He would wake up over and over through the night searching with his hands looking for it when it fell out of his mouth. Then he would wake up in the morning not well rested and quickly acquired the nick-name of "Oscar - the grouch." Once Oscar took about 30 minutes to vacate Joshua would return and he was good until the next time he went to sleep. After a month or so we decided to end his reliance on the pacifier. It was tough for a couple of nights, but he sleeps much more soundly now and is not waking up looking for the pacifier all night. The mornings have gotten better too. He wakes up looks around and then calls for mom. The most frustrating thing for Amber is that Joshua wants to do everything his big sister (jie jie) is doing. If she is sitting in a chair he wants to sit with her if she is eating something he want to eat it too. Well, he might want to eat everything but he doesn't. He was living on formula and off others plates when they shared with him. He continues to get milk, but he went right onto the solid food program. His taste buds are very plain and like mom's while Amber is a true spicy baby and likes spices like dad. He might turn out to be a vegetarian as that is what he eats the most other than when presented with rice or noodles. Meat is another matter he just doesn't go for that as much as we would like. Anyway things are going good and we will try to update this more often than every four months.
